Description
Trojan.Fakealert is the family name given to a series of Trojan horse programs that display false security warnings on your computer in order to get you to purchase fake anti-virus or anti-spyware software.
These Trojans may appear to be trial versions of anti-virus or anti-spyware applications, which you may download from software review sites set up to promote these fake products.
Prevention
To avoid Trojan.Fakealert family and similar malware in future:
- Never download and install software from sites you aren't sure of (including file sharing networks.)
- Only ever download anti-virus or anti-spyware software that are well-known and respected.
- Tech-Pro.net recommends Kaspersky AntiVirus or Dr.Web anti-virus for your virus and Trojan protection.
