ExtraRenamer lets you rename batches of files with just a few mouse clicks. First, you select the files you want to rename. You can do this by browsing using the built-in File Explorer and then dragging and dropping files into the list for renaming. You can also select an entire folder for renaming.
Once you have chosen the files to rename, you must specify how you want to rename them. You can keep part of all of the original filename or drop the original name altogether. You can also add prefixes or suffixes to the name. These can include any or all of: a text part, the file date, today's date and a sequentially increasing number. There are also options to change the case of the filename and remove any spaces within it. These options should be enough to cater for most file renaming requirements. ExtraRename can also handle renaming file extensions.
Before renaming, you can sort the list of files - just as you can in Windows Explorer, by clicking the column header - to order them by name or date. Then click Rename Files to rename them. After this, you can save the file list to a comma separated CSV file for record keeping, save as an M3U playlist, or copy the renamed files to another location such as a backup drive.
