DriveSitter
A hard disk failure is about the worst thing that can happen to a computer. At best it's inconvenient. At worst it
could change your life - if, for example, months of college work or an important business report is lost as a
result. If the hard drive is in an important business server, then its unexpected failure could have serious consequences for your business.
Would you like to be warned if your hard drive is about to fail? Then install DriveSitter. It's a small utility that runs in the background and constantly checks the health of your hard drive. If something starts to go wrong, it tells you. DriveSitter reliably detects most sudden hard disk failures, so you can back up your files and replace the hard drive before it happens.
DriveSitter makes use of a technology called SMART - for Self Monitoring And Reporting Technology - present in
all modern hard drives. As the term suggests, these drives monitor their own condition and performance, and report the results to any
program that asks. The data reported is complex and requires interpretation, and that's what DriveSitter does. One of the most
important health indicators is the drive temperature - too hot and failure is likely - so DriveSitter can
display a temperature icon for each drive in the system tray of the Windows task bar, if you want one.

DriveSitter's main window shows an at-a-glance status report for each monitored drive. It can also show you the individual status of each of the monitored indicators for any selected drive so you can see what the problem is, if there is one. DriveSitter shows the volume information for each of the disk volumes (drive letters) hosted on the selected drive, so you can see which volumes will be affected by any failure. This feature is unique to DriveSitter.
DriveSitter monitors and records all the status values of each drive, in order to detect trends and predict likely failures. This information can, if you wish, be displayed graphically, or as a table, or exported to a file for separate analysis.
DriveSitter can display the SMART status information obtained from each drive in great detail. If we have any criticism of the program, it is that it provides too much detail. Many potential buyers may be put off by the fact that they don't understand half the information that is presented. We didn't understand much of it either, and although the documentation provided is also detailed and comprehensive, most of the description went right over our heads!
But don't be deterred. It is very rare these days to come across a program that is written and documented to such a high standard as DriveSitter. This is a first-class product that does an important job to help protect the valuable data on your computer. We highly recommend it.
